SUBMISSION TO NAME MICROPROBES SENT TO MARS
The Deep Space Mission 2 Microprobes should be named 'Schiaparelli' and 'Lowell'.
Astronomers, Italian Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli, b.1835 - d.1910, and American Percival Lowell, b. 1855 - d. 1916, believed fervently in the existence of artificially constructed channels on Mars.
These theories have been proved wrong,
but their dream of discovering water on this fascinating planet is still intriguing scientific minds.
An excited Mr. Schiaparelli,
Told the world "On Mars I 've seen canali
Indicating the existence of an irrigation plan."
Mr. Lowell, too, highly delighted,
Declared that he had also sighted
Lines of vegetation where the polar spring melt rain!
