ALPINE PRAYER
May our children know this alpine country
Our children' s children, too.
These mountains and the tablelands
Skies of every hue,
Lyre-bird haunted gullies,
Laughing, leaping streams.
Snow clad, silent snow gums
A reality, not dreams.
May our sons and daughters
Breathe this crystal air,
Remember us with gratitude
For our loving care.
May our decisions for the future
Be never ruled by greed
But be made with honest thoughtfullness
To suit this country's need.
Conservationists and cattlemen,
Grasp reason by the reins,
Share the love of these wild ranges,
The freedom of high plains.
Our heritage forever.
May our descendents never cry
That we didn't care enough for them
And let our mountains die.
